Nature’s Finest Cacao Beans and Nibs

Cacao Flower

We are committed to building long-term relationships with earth conscious, sustainable, organic growers throughout the world. To find the very best Cacao beans and nibs we go to Ecuador for Arriba Nacional Cacao. Arriba Nacional are heirloom beans harvested in the traditional Ecuadorian style, unlike most growers who now produce hybridized beans grown for their high fat (cacao butter) content.
We offer only select organic beans, which are carefully processed through fermentation for 3 to 4 days. We do not offer roasted cacao beans or nibs. Fermentation brings the beans to an excellent state for further processing and preservation. Next the beans are thoroughly organically washed several times until they are very clean and then carefully dried in the sun.
Once dried, beans are selected for the hand peeling of whole beans as well as the production of cacao nibs (small peeled pieces of the whole bean). We support small coop farmers in order to help communities around the globe. Our cacao project has given part time employment to more than 40 women in processing who previously did not have jobs.
In addition to Cacao beans and nibs we also offer Cacao paste (liquor), butter and powder. We are currently working with our partners in Peru to have our cacao products certified Fair Trade. We want to insure our customers we are only buying from the most ethical, life system supporting suppliers around the world.

We are excited to offer our wholesale customers the very best Cacao paste, powder and butter. Our Cacao paste, also called liquor, is used by organic chocolate makers all over the United States. Simply add sweetener to begin making high quality chocolate.
Cacao powder and butter are made from 100% Cacao paste. Approximately 50% of the Cacao bean is fat, also known as Cacao butter. The Origin of Cacao… Beloved Throughout the World for Centuries
According to the World Cocoa Foundation “Cocoa beans were an important part of ancient South American cultures. The Mayans created a ritual beverage made from the ground cocoa beans mixed with water, black pepper, vanilla and spices. The beverage was shared during betrothal and marriage ceremonies, providing one of the first links we know of between chocolate and romance.” The Spanish eventually took this secret South American recipe to Europe where chocolate eventually became popular in many of the forms we know today.
The cacao (pronounced "cah-cow") tree is a small evergreen cultivated for countless centuries for its precious beans: the source of chocolate. There are several varieties of cacao beans, and they can vary significantly in taste and chemical composition, not only from country to country, but from different plantations within the same country, making it important to know where your beans are grown.

The Nutritional Power of Cacao
Raw cacao beans are a highly complex super food packed with more than 300 components, many of which are destroyed or neutralized when the beans are processed into chocolate. Cacao beans contain vitamins that are needed by the body on a daily basis including vitamin C, beta-carotene, niacin, riboflavin and thiamin. They are particularly rich in essential minerals such as magnesium, zinc, selenium, phosphorus, manganese, copper and calcium. Cacao beans also contain important amino acids, neurotransmitters, natural fruit sugars, fiber, protein, and other elements.
Approximately 15% of Cacao bean weight is composed of flavinoid, which have anti-oxidant properties that are believed to reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers. The beans also contain phenylethylamine (PEA), which raise blood sugars, give an energy hit and release chemicals in the brain that make us feel good. Popularly known as the love drug, its presence is undoubtedly why chocolate has always had a reputation as an aphrodisiac.
The World Cocoa Foundation reports and archives many research studies about Cacao to help educate people and encourage responsible, quality growing standards. Studies demonstrating the nutritional, dietary and healing benefits of cacao can be reviewed on the World Cocoa Foundation Research Center web site.
